CLINICAL ADMINISTRATOR – MEDICAL CODER/SUMMARISER

Location: King Street Surgery, Kempston, Bedford MK42 8QD

We are looking to recruit 1 person to join our friendly team of Workflow Administrators / Summarisers. 

The role would be well suited to someone who comes from a General Practice background or has experience working in the NHS.  We currently have ex-nurses and administrative staff performing these roles, and the mix of skills and backgrounds has proved to be a winning formula.

The position will be part-time 15 hours per week: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 5 hours per day 9.30am-2.30pm.  Pay will be dependent on experience.  We are situated in the heart of Kempston, over 3 sites, and offer flexibility with hours, 5 weeks holiday a year plus bank holidays (pro rata) and an NHS pension scheme.  The coding team work out of our branch site situated within Kempston Clinic, Halsey Road.  If you feel that you have the experience and skills to complement our dedicated team, we would like to hear from you. Main duties of job

  • Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, accurately read coding and completing any detailed actions.
  • Forwarding correspondence/tasks to the GP, Nurse or Pharmacist as appropriate.
  • Ensuring confidentiality is always maintained, both in and outside of the workplace.
  • Correction of any anomalies in patient notes, restructuring of existing computerised notes as necessary.
  • Ensuring computerised records are accurate and up to date.
  • Working strictly in accordance with practice protocols for Workflow Optimisation and Summarising.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all staff – clinical and administrative.

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience working in the NHS or in Primary Care
  • 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret written information accurately
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a friendly approachable manner.
  • Able to problem solve, use initiative and prioritise tasks.
  • Organised, conscientious and methodical
  • Exceptional standards of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Awareness of data protection/confidentiality
  • Reliable, flexible and adaptable to change

Desirable

  • Experience of summarising medical records or read coding of medical information
  • Ability to use SystmOne software
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office/Word
